Traveling Fellowship

Committee Profile

Reports To:Executive and Governance Council

The members of the Traveling Fellowship Committee are a dedicated group of ambassadors for the Traveling Fellowship Program. They are influential in selecting members who will best represent AOSSM during our annual international exchanges with our partner societies – APKASS, ESSKA, and SLARD.

Committee Term:

Members-at-large serve three (3) consecutive years upon appointment; Chairperson can serve two (2) consecutive years.

Committee Size:

Maximum of 7 total, including 6 members at large and one chairperson.

Rotation Schedule:

3/1/3 (2024: 3; 2025: 1; 2026: 3; 2027: 3; 2028:1; 2029: 3)


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Selects Traveling Fellows for the upcoming tours based on applications submitted.
  • Work with the AOSSM President-Elect to choose a Godparent for upcoming tours.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with ESSKA, APKASS and SLARD.
  • Oversees Traveling Fellowship Tours, including selection of hosts and itinerary.
  • Engage with younger members and encourage them to apply for the traveling fellowship.
  • Encourage members to host the visiting traveling fellows.
  • Review Traveling Fellowship participant consideration criteria and update as needed.

Time Commitment:

  • One virtual meeting in the fall to review applications and select the traveling fellows for the following year.
  • One in-person meeting at Annual Meeting to hear tour recaps and discuss opportunities to improve the program.
  • Apply to host the traveling fellows at your institution during your committee term.
  • Virtual conference calls, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • All members, except those in the International category, are eligible to serve as committee members at large.
  • Eligibility is contingent on previous participation as a Traveling Fellow.
  • Chairperson must be an AOSSM Active Member.
  • Passion for the AOSSM Traveling Fellowship Program and a desire to maintain our relationships with our partner societies in Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America.

Get Involved in The Society

Volunteer committees form the lifeblood of AOSSM and provide guidance for Society programs and projects. Every year, we accept new volunteers to serve on our standing committees. The application period will open in January.
