The Education Committee identifies, develops, administers, and evaluates all live CME and non-CME educational activities other than the Annual Meeting and Specialty Day. The committee reviews any live educational projects with which the Society is concerned and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors. They oversee coordination of national and international educational outreach meetings by identifying faculty and topics

Committee Term:

Members-at-large serve three (3) consecutive years upon appointment; Chairperson can serve either two (2) consecutive years or (3) consecutive years, depending on when they were named to the chair role

Committee Size:

Maximum of 24 total, including 20 members-at-large, 4 ex-officio, and 1 chairperson.

Rotation Schedule: 8/8/8 (2024: 8; 2025:8; 2026:8; 2027:8, and so on)

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • The Education Committee identifies, develops, administers, and evaluates all live CME and non-CME educational activities other than the Annual Meeting and Specialty Day.
    • This committee, however, is responsible for the Instructional
      Courses at the Annual Meeting – selection, evaluation, and ROI.
  • The committee members may serve in workgroups based on particular goals and objectives of the committee. For example, there may be a workgroup dedicated to prospective course development and another on revising STOP tip sheets.
  • The committee reviews any live educational projects with which the Society is concerned and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors.
  • The committee oversees coordination of national and international educational outreach meetings by identifying faculty and topics.

Time Commitment:

  • Most of the committee’s work will be conducted via email and group chat.
    • Virtual Zoom calls, or teleconference calls as needed…
  • Typically, there are three-to-five committee meetings annually, including one in-person meeting at Annual Meeting
  • Committee members identify, develop, administer, and evaluate live CME and non-CME activities throughout the year.

Qualifications:

  • All members, except those in the International category, are eligible to serve as committee members at large.
  • Chairperson must be an AOSSM Active Member.
  • Passion for education and continuous learning for orthopaedic sports medicine professionals including team physicians, and the holistic healthcare team caring for athletes.
  • Experience as a participant or developer of orthopaedic surgery/sports medicine educational content.
  • Familiarity with virtual/on-demand learning.

Get Involved in The Society

Volunteer committees form the lifeblood of AOSSM and provide guidance for Society programs and projects. Every year, we accept new volunteers to serve on our standing committees. The application period will open in January.
