Committee Profile

Reports To:Knowledge Discovery (Research) Council

The members of the Research Committee evaluate applications and select recipients of AOSSM Research Grants and AOSSM Research Awards. They develop and organize Society sponsored research projects, research conferences, and research workshops. They serve as an expert resource for outside organizations seeking input or action from the Society on matters of science, quality, and research.

Committee Term: Members-at-large serve three (3) consecutive years upon appointment; Chairperson can serve either two (2) consecutive years or (3) consecutive years, depending on when they were named to the chair role.
Committee Size: Maximum of 25 total, including 24 members-at-large and one chairperson.
Rotation Schedule: 7/8/10 (2024: 7; 2025: 8; 2026: 10; 2027: 7; 2028: 8; 2029: 10)

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate applications and select recipients of AOSSM Research Grants and AOSSM Research Awards.
  • Regularly review criteria for AOSSM Research Grants and Research Awards and update as needed.
  • Develop and organize Society sponsored research projects, research conferences, research workshops, and research think tanks.
  • Serve as an expert resource for outside organizations seeking input or action from the Society on matters of science, quality, and research.

Time Commitment:

  • Quarterly committee calls.
  • Committee activities include grant review and grant selection which occur every 6-8 weeks.
  • In-person activities (e.g., research workshop, think tank, committee meeting) at the Annual Meeting.

Qualifications:

  • All members, except those in the International category, are eligible to serve as committee members at large.
  • Chairperson must be an AOSSM Active Member.
  • Strong familiarity with research process and grant writing.
