Committee Profile

Reports To:Executive and Governance Council

The members of Emerging Leaders Committee provide oversight for the Emerging Leaders Program, which is designed to nurture, guide, and mentor early-career members.

Committee Term:

Members-at-large serve three (3) consecutive years upon appointment; Chairperson can serve either two (2) consecutive years or (3) consecutive years, depending on when they were named to the chair role.

Committee Size:

Maximum of seven total active members, including six members-at-large and one chairperson. Up to four ex-officio members may serve in a year for a total of 11 participants.

Rotation Schedule:

2/5/2 (2024: 0; 2025: 2; 2026: 5; 2027: 2; 2028: 2; 2029: 5)


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provides oversight for the Emerging Leaders Program, which is designed to nurture, guide, and mentor early-career members.
  • To ensure the long-term sustainability and relevance of our Society thru a seamless progression of leadership

Time Commitment:

  • Most of the committee’s work will be conducted via email and group chat
  • Committee meets 3 to 4 at year as needed, in addition to commitment to serving on a designated subcommittee.
  • One in-person meeting at Annual Meeting
  • Assist with identifying speakers and relevant topics focused on early-career members.
  • Once a year, contribute to writing an article to be published in SMU.

Qualifications:

  • All members, except those in the International category, are eligible to serve as committee members at large.
  • Chairperson must be an AOSSM Active Member.
  • Members under the age of 45 or with less than 10 years of experience, regardless of age, are eligible to serve on this committee.
