AOSSM Annual Meeting
The Fellows Research Awards are given annually by the Fellowship Committee to the best research submitted by abstract for the AOSSM Annual Meeting from a sports medicine fellow. The awards are given in two categories, Clinical Science and Basic Science.
Each recipient receives $1,500 and an award plaque and is asked to present their paper at the AOSSM Annual Meeting.
Emerging Leaders
Designed to mentor and engage the next generation of leaders in our Society, the AOSSM Emerging Leaders Program is a leadership development program for sports medicine orthopaedic surgeons under the age of 45. Involvement provides fellows and other participants with the skills and guidance to launch their careers while also giving opportunities to connect and work with accomplished peers across the globe.
A highlight of the Emerging Leaders Program is the Nightcap event, a series of virtual meetings aimed at providing members with information to build their leadership skills and a platform to exchange ideas in an informal, collegial setting.
Fellows Exam
The AOSSM Fellows Exam was developed to assist fellowship programs in identifying strengths and weaknesses in their fellows’ orthopaedic sports medicine clinical and practice management areas. Fellows participate in a pre-test at the beginning of their training year and then a post-test toward the end of the year. Fellows will receive their results and analysis to show how they compare to peers. This is a valuable tool for fellowship programs to use during training and for fellows to prepare for the subspecialty exam.
Registration for the pre-test will be available in September of each year; fellows will take the post-test the following June.
Fellows Course
Prior to start of fellowship, the Fellows Course is a kick-off to the orthopaedic sports medicine training year. With a strong emphasis on sideline and training room management, this premier two-day course equips incoming fellows with an understanding of what they need to know, actions they should take and when to escalate quickly. Highlights include access to world-class faculty, engaging lectures and case presentations and surgical skills lab sessions.
Programs will be able to register Fellows for the course in May. The 2024 Fellows Course will take place on July 26-27 in Rosemont, IL at the OLC Education and Conference Center, which is located the AOSSM office building and only a few minutes from Chicago O’Hare Airport.
