April 6, 1937 - October 2, 2023
George S. Mauerman, devoted father, physician, and friend passed away peacefully in his home early Monday, October 2, at the age of 86. Born April 6, 1937, in Monroe, WI, Dr. Mauerman received his medical degree from Columbia University. He served as a captain in the Air Force before completing his orthopedic residency at the Campbell Clinic in 1970 and joined Advanced Orthopedics of Oklahoma. That same year he began serving as the team physician at the University of Tulsa where he worked up until the day he died.
George became one of the most renowned orthopedic surgeons in the country. He has won His numerous awards and achievements, most notably having the sports medicine facility at The University of Tulsa named after him. He was a member of AOSSM for 42 years and in that time, almost never missed an Annual Meeting. He was the founder of the beloved Family Olympics at the meeting, a committee volunteer, and the first winner of the Thomas A. Brady Award for service to his local community.
