New Annual Meeting Programming for Fellows and Residents

AOSSM has lowered the cost and increased the value for Fellows and Residents at the 2023 Annual Meeting, July 13–16 in Washington, D.C. Registration includes dedicated programming, numerous networking and social events, and four days of education offering 20+ CME hours—all for the lowest registration rate of any specialty meeting, even when you include Instructional Courses.

In addition, the Society has designed a new Residents and Fellows Forum to foster your growth as a well-rounded sports medicine surgeon. This exclusive course is designed to provide insight into the pressing topics you’ll face in practice—delivered by leading surgeons, team physicians and researchers.

The Forum is free with registration but seats are limited! Register today to save your spot.

AOSSM and ISAKOS Host Successful Specialty Day

AOSSM partnered with the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) to deliver a unique Specialty Day program on Saturday, March 11 as part of the AAOS 2023 Annual Meeting in Las Vegas.

More than 620 colleagues came together to hear the latest research as well as compare techniques and approaches from around the world. Faculty were from the United States as well as international and were part of every session. They provided a comprehensive and truly global perspective.

In addition to this outstanding education, the day featured two very special events. First, Darren Johnson, MD, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Kentucky and head team orthopaedic surgeon for the UK Wildcats, delivered the annual Kennedy Lecture. In his talk, “The House that Builds Us: Faith, Family, Friends, Mentors and Patients,” Dr. Johnson recounted his family’s own difficult struggle with COVID-19 as well as his lauded career as a surgeon, philanthropist, researcher, and author.

Following the lecture, Robin West, MD, Willem Van Der Merwe, MBChB, and Alan Getgood, MD, hosted a tribute to two iconic leaders—Peter Fowler, MD (1938–2022), and Freddie Fu, MD (1950-2021). Both served as president of AOSSM and ISAKOS, making this joint Specialty Day the perfect opportunity to celebrate their many contributions to our community.

AOSSM President Mark Miller, MD, and Past President Ned Amendola, MD, moderated an open discussion where colleagues and friends shared memories and stories about these beloved leaders.
