In a ceremony held at the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy (AASPT), Greg Dummer, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), CAE, of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) was recognized with the Academy’s coveted Presidential Award of Merit.

In his acceptance speech Dummer acknowledged the tremendous connection between Sports Physical Therapy and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine.

“The team approach to the care of athletes and people of all ages and abilities is an absolute necessity,” said Dummer. “Whether from K-12, collegiate, professional or the Olympics, it takes a true, holistic team approach to offer individuals the best care, and ability to not only compete at a high level, but to return to play, or their activities as soon as safely possible.”

The AASPT Presidential Merit Award is bestowed by the President of the Society whom this year is Walt Jenkins, PT, DHS, LATC, ATC. The last recipient of this award was Dr. Jim Andrews. The purpose for the award is to acknowledge and honor an individual outside of the AASPT who has made a distinguished contribution to the specialty of sports physical therapy. AASPT and AOSSM enjoy a collaborative relationship that involves publishing, in-person education, online education, and research initiatives.
