Gifts of Stock
Making a donation to AOSSM by gifting stocks in place of cash can lower your taxes. Donating appreciated stocks held for more than one year reduces your taxes by avoiding capital gains tax on the appreciation and providing a fair market value tax deduction. This "double tax benefit" means you pay no taxes on the stock's growth (up to 20% savings) and can deduct the full value of the donated stocks.
Donor Advised Funds (DAFs)
Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) offer a simple, flexible way to make charitable giving more intentional. Donors can contribute cash, securities, or other eligible assets to a DAF, receive an immediate charitable tax deduction when applicable, and recommend grants to qualified nonprofit organizations over time. Because the sponsoring organization handles administration, recordkeeping, and grant distribution, a DAF can streamline giving, especially for donors who support multiple organizations or want to set aside funds for future philanthropy.
DAFs can also provide valuable flexibility in financial and charitable planning. Donors may contribute appreciated assets, potentially reducing capital gains taxes while increasing the amount available for charitable purposes, and can time contributions separately from decisions about which nonprofits to support. Funds in a DAF can generally be invested for potential tax-free growth, creating an opportunity to extend a donor’s charitable impact over many years and involve family members in developing a lasting tradition of philanthropy.
AOSSM gratefully accepts donations from Donor Advised Funds. If you recommend that your DAF contributes to AOSSM and that recommendation is accepted, here is some helpful information:

Qualified Charitable Distributions
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows individuals aged 70.5 years or older to transfer up to $111,000 annually (in 2026) directly from a taxable IRA to qualified organizations, excluding the amount from taxable income. This strategy satisfies Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) without increasing taxable income or requiring itemized deductions.
AOSSM does not provide legal, tax, or financial advice and donors should consult their advisors. Contact our team with questions about facilitating a gift: [email protected] or 847-655-8651.
I choose to … support AOSSM because of all that it does to support everything that we do as team physicians. It is the education, the administration, the fellowships, the content, the advocacy…. Everything about being a team physician comes to us through AOSSM and it’s the organization that supports us the best.”
