Remembering Mark Price, MD, PhD

The AOSSM community was saddened to learn of the passing of Mark Price, MD, PhD, on August 18, 2024. Dr. Price had been the Head Team Physician and Medical Director of the New England Patriots since 2016 and a team physician for the Boston Red Sox since 2009. He was a Captain in the U.S. Navy Reserves and served in combat operations in Afghanistan, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

In his 15 years as a member of AOSSM, Dr. Price was a volunteer leader, served as faculty for several courses and was widely published in Society journals. He was a shoulder specialist at Massachusetts General Hospital and, prior to that, at UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial Medical Center.

Dr. Price completed a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder reconstructive surgery at Mass General. At the conclusion of his training he was awarded the Herodicus Society traveling fellowship and studied with Dr. Jim Andrews at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, and Dr. David Altchek at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

A Funeral Service will be held Sat. Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. at Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, 207 Washington St., Wellesley, MA. Memorial donations may be made in Mark's name to the Northwestern University Mark D. Price Scholarship Fund or the Massachusetts General Cancer Center.
