How To Get Involved

The Society encourages newer members and members under the age of 45 to get directly involved in the Society by providing several opportunities:

  1. Apply to serve on a committee
  2. Nominate yourself to serve on the Council of Delegates in your state (nominations typically open February thru March)
  3. Apply to be a Traveling Fellow
  4. Board of Directors has two Member-at-Large Under-45 positions which have a two-year term (selected by the Nominating Committee)
  5. Apply for a Research Grant or Award opportunity:

    Young Investigator Research Grant. - A young investigator is anyone who has received less than $25,000 in funding from grantmakers outside of their parent institution.

    The Excellence in Research Award  is awarded to a lead/primary author under the age of 40 of a manuscript submitted to the Research Awards.

    The Bart Mann Award is an opportunity to get involved in an NIH review panel.

  6. Resident and Fellows papers accepted for the Annual Meeting are eligible for the Herodicus Award or Fellows Research Awards, respectively. Award recipients (and a guest) are invited to the Board Dinner the Wednesday of the Annual Meeting.
  7. Review a journal article and receive CME


Become involved in the Emerging Leaders Program. Participation in the Emerging Leaders Program will provide you with the skills and guidance to launch your career. Your involvement will also provide you the opportunity to be notified of upcoming events hosted by the Emerging Leaders Program.
