Research Awards

The AOSSM is now accepting applications online for all AOSSM Research Awards! Submissions for all grants are due by midnight of November 1st. Please contact Bart Mann via e-mail at bart@aossm.org or phone (847-292-4900) if you experience any problems with the submitter.

The Cabaud Memorial Award
This award is given to the best paper submitted concerning hard or soft tissue biology, in-vitro research, laboratory or "bench-type" research, or in-vivo animal research. The award consists of:
  • $500 Honorarium
  • Award Certificate
  • Presentation of the paper at the AOSSM Annual Meeting
  • Consideration of publication in The American Journal of Sports Medicine

The Excellence in Research Award

This award is given to the best paper submitted in any category to the Awards Committee with a primary author under the age of 40 at the time of the Annual Meeting. The award consists of $1,000 to the principal investigator and $1,500 to the sponsoring institution. This author may not have won this or the O'Donoghue or Cabaud Awards in the past.

The principal investigator will be expected to deliver a presentation at the Annual Meeting of the Society. All award papers must be submitted for publication to The American Journal of Sports Medicine (and, therefore, cannot have been published elsewhere.)

The NCAA Research Award

The award is given to the best paper submitted that pertains to the health, safety, and well-being of COLLEGIATE student-athletes. The award consists of:
  • $500 Honorarium
  • Award Plaque to the first author and Award Certificates to co-authors
  • Presentation of the paper by the first author at the AOSSM annual meeting

The O'Donoghue Sports Injury Research Award

This award is given to the best overall paper which deals with clinical based research or human in-vivo research. The award consists of:
  • $2,500 Honorarium
  • Award Certificate or Plaque
  • Presentation of the paper at the AOSSM Annual Meeting
  • Publication in The American Journal of Sports Medicine
