Membership - Applying for Upgrade

Applying for Upgrade - Candidate to Active or Associate Membership

Please review the Society's membership classifications and be certain that you qualify before processing.

Applicants interested in upgrading their membership must have been a Candidate Member of AOSSM for two or more years, in order to be eligible to upgrade your membership to Active. As you know, the maximum period of Candidate membership shall be five (5) years. After two years, the candidate may upgrade to the category for which he/she is qualified.

As a Candidate member upgrading your membership to Active status you must fulfill the following requirements:
  • Practicing in your current geographic location for two or more years;
  • Achieve board certification by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons;
  • Must have attended AOSSM Annual Meeting in the past five (5) years
Candidate members who do not meet the requirements for Active status may upgrade to Associate status. Associate members are:
  • International Orthopaedic Surgeon practicing outside the United States or Canada who is certified in orthopaedic surgery and a member of your country's national Orthopaedic Organization
  • Osteopaths not qualified to be Active members but certified by the American Ostepathic Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Candidate members upgrading to Associate membership must also meet the following:
  • Practicing in your current geographic location for two or more years;
  • Must have attended AOSSM Annual Meeting in the past five (5) years
To upgrade your membership please proceed with the following: The applicant is responsible for contacting all references. Your application is not complete until the Society office has received your team letters and completed application.

The application deadline is November 15th. All application materials, including references must be received by that date.
