Applying for Candidate Membership
Candidate Member Starter Package
The AOSSM is pleased to announce that Ossur has generously
provided a grant to AOSSM that will underwrite the Candidate Member Starter Package for all fellows who are currently
enrolled or who have completed an ACGME-accredited orthopaedic sports medicine fellowship with in the past year.
This grant will not only underwrite the membership application
fee and first year Society dues of $150 for all sports medicine fellows
who apply for Candidate membership, but will provide for immediate membership benefits, as follows:
- Complimentary subscription to The American Journal of Sports Medicine
- Subscription to the Society's bi-monthly newsletter, Sports Medicine Update
- Access to special features online at www.sportsmed.org
- Complimentary registration fee for the AOSSM Annual Meeting
- Discounted registration fees for other meetings and Society products.
If you meet the criteria and would like a Candidate Membership Application, you will need to
proceed with the following:
- Complete the Candidate Membership Application
and submit to the Societys office.
Applications can be submitted to email. If you would like to submit your application by email
please save the Candidate Application
to your computer, complete and email the application to
the AOSSM Membership Department. If you do not have an electronic signature
you may fax, 847-292-4905 or mail it to the Society Office.
- Contact your Sports Medicine Fellowship Director(s) and your Residency Director ask them each to
complete the Candidate Reference Form and submit the forms to our office.
The Society Office must receive all application materials- application and reference forms, by
the application deadline, December 15th.
The applicant is responsible for contacting your
Residency and Fellowship Directors. Your application will not be complete until the Society
office has received your application and completed reference forms from
your Directors.
AOSSM Candidate Members
AOSSM Candidate members are physicians who have completed or are currently enrolled in an
ACGME-accredited orthopaedic sports medicine fellowship in the United States or Candada.
Candidate members demonstrate a significant contribution and commitment to sports medicine
as required of active members and as otherwise established by the AOSSM Board of Directors and
AOSSM Membership Committee.
Candidate membership is a five-year maximum term. After a time period of two years
Candidate members may apply for the category of membership (Active or Associate) for which he/she
is qualified. Candidate members are required to upgrade their membership or their Candidate Membership in
the Society will automatically be terminated.
Active participation in AOSSM is also essential to its members. In order to maintain membership
in AOSSM, Society members must attend at least one AOSSM Annual Meeting, Surgical Skills (Marquee) Course or
AOSSM & AAOS Review course for Subspecialty Certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine within a four year period.
