Keystone Fellowship Directors Meeting Part 1
Keystone Fellowship Directors Meeting Part 2

2009-2010 Sports Medicine/Arthroscopy Match
The inaugural year of the match was a success with over 72% of applicants matching in their first or second choice rankings! We are very pleased with the results of the first match and continue to refine the process for future years.

The match will again utilize the San Francisco Matching Program. Information for both programs and applicants will be posted here and on the San Francisco Match Site when available.

Registration for the match is now available.

Please visit the Match Information page for further details.

Fellowship Director Meeting in Las Vegas, NV on February 27, 2009
The presentation slides from the Las Vegas Fellowship Director’s meeting can be viewed here. The match is an overwhelming success and both the Fellowship Directors and the Fellowship Match committee congratulated all on the success of the match thus far. There was considerable discussion regarding modifications to the application, dates for applications submission and post-interview communication. The Fellowship Match committee will re-visit these topics based on the feedback at the Las Vegas meeting and will communicate any updates to the programs and applicants soon.

Match Information for Upcoming Fellowship Year
The Match is up and running with 93 programs representing 223 position participating. Information on how to register as well as a list of participating programs is listed in the fellowship tabs of the sportsmed.org web site.

San Francisco March 2008 Dr. Harner, Fellowship Committee Chair, PowerPoint Presentation from the Fellowship Director's Meeting on Friday, March 7 in San Francisco, CA can now be downloaded, Fellowship Director's Meeting.

Update on Specialty Match
As reported in AOSSMs Sports Medicine Update in September, the AOA, AAOS and ABOS began discussions to resolve the inconsistencies in the fellowship matching process across the entire orthopaedic specialty. On July 24, 2007, representatives from each subspecialty participated in a conference call to discuss a possible matching process for orthopaedics. Each subspecialty was represented as Dr. Peter Stern, president of AOA, outlined the basic goals for a match:

A. Establishment of a Central Orthopaedic Fellowship Clearinghouse
B.One orthopaedic universal match with the following characteristics:

  • One application due date (December, PGY 4 year)
  • Defined interview dates (January 1- March 31 of PGY 4year)
  • One Match Date (end of May/early June of PGY 4 year)
C. Early offers / acceptances are not binding: early acceptance by a resident of a program offer (in violation of policy) may be turned down later and the resident may participate in the universal match.

AOSSM Board of Directors meeting November 2 meeting will discuss AOSSMs support and participation in the ongoing efforts.
