The AOSSM self-assessment and board review is the first program of its kind designed specifically for orthopedic sports medicine specialists. Developed by a faculty of leading practitioners and researchers, the program will help you review critical concepts, improve clinical decision-making skills and prepare for the new sports-medicine board exam.
To use this program, you need a special user ID and password. Contact the AOSSM at 847/292-4900 for more information.
Logging In
Enter the user name and password you received when you registered for the program.
If nothing happens when you try to log in:
The AOSSM self-assessment program requires your web browser to accept cookies. If nothing happens when you try to log in, modify the privacy settings on your browser to allow cookies. If you forget your password:
Click on the forgot password? link on the log in screen and your password will be e-mailed to you. If you need more help:

You may exit the program at anytime using the Logout link on the welcome screen. The program will save your test information each time you log out.
Welcome Screen
Once you log in, you'll see the welcome screen, which tells you how many questions you have answered and what percentage of your answers are correct. When you complete the test and obtain CME credit, the welcome screen will also display the number of CME hours you have been awarded.
![]() Score Details Button - Shows how many questions you have answered by topic area, and compares your percentage of correct answers with those of others who have taken the test.
Request CME Button - Allows you to request CME credits once you have answered all 125 questions and completed the post-test evaluation.
Reset Scores Button - Clears your scores. Once you have completed the program and received CME credit, a score reset will allow you to retake the test for self-assessment purposes, but will have no effect on (1) your CME, or (2) your contribution to the normative data figures.
To start answering questions, select Continue from the welcome screen or click the Questions link at the top menu bar. You can answer questions sequentially using the Next and Previous buttons, or navigate directly to any question using the navigation menu at the left of the page.
![]() Some questions are accompanied by a "See Figure" link. Click on the link to see an image that may help you to answer the question correctly.
To answer a question: choose one of the available answers and click Submit.
To skip a question: choose Next, Prev, or use the navigation menu at the left of the page.
Note: Once you have submitted an answer, you cannot go back and modify your answer unless you clear all your scores using the Reset Scores button on the welcome screen.
Results
When you choose and answer and click Submit, the correct answer will appear on the right side of the page. Many answers contain links to abstracts of supporting journal articles. To see the abstracts, click on the PubMed Abstract link at the bottom of the Answer Pane.
Clearing Your Answers
To clear your answers navigate to the welcome screen and then press the Reset Scores button.
Note: You cannot clear answers selectively, you can only clear all your answers.
Built-in tools allow you to easily compare your test performance to that of your peers.
![]() To Evaluate Your Score By Question:
Click the Normative Data link in the question's Answer Pane. To Evaluate Your Score By Topic Area:
Open the Score menu, and select a topic area from the list at the left of the page. To Evaluate Your Score Over the Entire Test:
Open the Score menu and select Score Report Summary from the list at the left of the page. Note: Normative data uses each participant's first answer to each question. Clearing your score and re-answering a question has no effect on normative data.
You can receive up to 12 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 credits by completing the AOSSM Self-Assessment and Board Review.
To Obtain CME credit:
You will receive one hour of CME credit for each hour you spent on the exam, up to a maximum of 12 hours.
