The selection of team medical coverage is often competitive and controversial. Though serving as team physician offers great opportunity for personal and professional development, increasingly these decisions are not made with the best interests of the patient-athlete in mind. AOSSM recognizes there are many complex factors which can influence a decision to pursue or award a medical contract for coverage.
For these reasons the AOSSM produced the brochure, Principles for Selecting Team Medical Coverage, to offer guidelines during the selection process. This brochure was recently revised to include policy statements from both the National Football League and Major League Baseball.
