Associate Membership
Associate members are: International orthopaedic surgeons practicing outside of the United States or Canada who are certified in orthopaedic surgery and members of their country's national orthopaedic organization, or osteopaths not qualified to be Active Members but certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
These applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Practice exclusively in orthopaedic surgery for at least two (2) years in their current location of practice.
- Demonstrate a significant contribution and commitment to sports medicine as required of active members and as otherwise established by the Board of Directors and Membership Committee
To be considered, applicants need to provide demographic, practice and educational information and document their involvement in sports medicine through:
- Service as team physician at any level of competition;
- Service to local, regional, national and international athletic competitions;
- Education of persons providing health care to athletes;
- Continuing medical education in sports medicine;
- Research and publication; or
- Submission and presentation of papers at sports medicine functions
Associate members are not eligible to vote, hold office or serve on the Board of Directors. They may act in an advisory capacity and unless specified otherwise, may serve on committees with vote.
Please note if you are a Candidate Member and are upgrading to Active or Associate membership, submit your Upgrade application as well as the Team Service Form. Also, there is no application fee to upgrade your membership.
If you meet the requirements for Associate Membership submit the following materials by November 1st to Debbie Czech, Manager, Member Services.
Your application is not complete until the Society office has received your sponsor letters, completed team forms/letters, completed application and application fee.
