THE TEAM PHYSICIAN AND GAME
DAY PREPARATION

considerably with level of competition and type of event. Even when
resources are limited, however, the goal of the team physician must remain
to ensure safe play for every participating athlete and provide quality on-site
medical care as needed. This goal can be accomplished by integrating
preseason planning, game day preparation, and postseason evaluation.

Game Day Planning

Game day preparedness can be defined as the identification and planning
for medical services that promote the health and safety of the athlete,
attempting to prevent injury when possible, and allowing the provision
of medical care at the site of competition.

Optimization of medical care for the injured or sick athlete is necessary
when health care providers are “working in a glass house.” Team physicians
